December 29, 2022The Boundary Bay Airport (CZBB) in Delta, Canada is a mid-sized airport which serves the metro Vancouver Regional District. It is located 2.5 nautical miles east of Ladner, BC. This airport is a prime landing destination for both corporate and general aviation aircraft. There are a number of flight schools at the airport. They include Canadian Flight Centre, Sea Land Air Flight Centre, and the Pacific Flying Club. Many private aircraft are also stationed at the airport.
The City of Delta owns the airport. In order to expand the use of the airpark, the City is considering the construction of a bridge to provide better access. If the project is successful, the airport will be able to accommodate regional airlines. However, this would add more traffic to the airport.
Alpha Aviation, which took over the management of the airpark in December 2004, has made investments in the facility. Since then, they have constructed several hangars, extending all runways, and installing PAPI lighting. In addition, they have created a Fixed-Base Operation which provides facilities and services to the general aviation community. Their commitment to the environment is also evident in the way they operate.
Alpha Executive Air operated a charter service at the Boundary Bay Airport using turbine-pressurized aircraft. In addition, the corporation operates a fuel concession operation, fueling aircraft oil. A new maintenance hangar is also complete and will be used to store aircraft.
In the past three years, 10 corporate and business jet aircraft have set up operations at the airpark. These include the Gulfstream, Pilatus, and King Air. Most of these aircraft are frequent visitors.
Boundary Bay Airport is an important asset for the Delta community. Although the airport is not as large as the other major airports in Canada, it has a strong focus on maintaining a healthy flow of traffic. It is focused on the corporate and general aviation communities, as well as on continuing as an important community asset.
Alpha Aviation has received a grant from the British Columbia government to refurbish the airport. Along with the airport’s existing facilities, Alpha has added a new terminal that provides a wide range of services to the general aviation community. Alpha is working with the aviation industry to make the Boundary Bay Airport the preferred airport location.
Throughout the history of the airpark, many local organizations have been a part of its growth and development. For example, in the early 1970s, the Recreational Aircraft Association of Canada Chapter 85 rented a portion of the airpark. Today, COPA Flight 5 (Boundary Bay Flying Club) is a tenant. Also, Alpha Executive Air has provided a twice-daily commercial service from the Boundary Bay Airport to Victoria International Airport.
With the construction of the new maintenance hangar, the Delta airpark has reached a height of about 1,000 feet. Delta is a city of about 100,000 people in the southern suburbs of Vancouver. As such, the Delta community uses the airpark for a variety of social and sports activities.
